Andrew Savage Launches New Band Iconic Fugues with “2025 Dream/2025 Blues”

Andrew Savage has a new band with a new song out today. The Parquet Courts frontman has launched a new group, Iconic Fugues, with a two-pronged track that’s surely relatable to anyone who has a rose and a thorn of the past year. Check out “2025 Dream/2025 Blues” below.

According to Savage, “2025 Dream/2025 Blues” is “about a guy who wakes up from a dream only to be confronted with a series of increasingly consequential, harsh realities.” Despite that dire synopsis, he doesn’t see the song as a total bummer. “As I write this all out it sounds bleak, but I don’t find it to be a bleak song. I think it’s just amazing the way a fun guitar solo can draw a bit of sun out from behind the clouds.”

Iconic Fugues came together sometime after Savage released his most recent solo album, Several Songs About Fire, in 2023. Although the group’s final form “is still being decided,” as Savage told Shaad Magazine this week, a recent performance by the Marseille-based band featured his Several Songs About Fire collaborator Dylan Hadley and Santiago Aldunate of the psych-rock band Hantayo.

“There’s a difference between a solo record and a band record that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it’s just one of those things that you know when you hear it,” he added to Shaad. “I’ve been in France for four years, in Marseille for almost three, and I’ve got people here…. My life has changed, and so the music has changed, and I guess I needed a new name to sort of inaugurate that change, you know?” Parquet Courts, he added, are “not active at the moment, but still a band.”
