Silo Season 3 Episode 7 Leaves Fates Hanging in the Balance

Fates are left on the line during one of the most intense episodes of Silo Season 3 yet.

Everyone has to risk it all if they want to save the silo, and Bernard desperately wants his own sacrifice to be worth it.

Meanwhile, even the past storyline adds a bit of a punch, as Daniel and Helen finally get a few more questions instead of answers.

I do feel like some of the reveals could have happened an episode ago, though.

Let’s Deal with the Past

I want to jump into the past storyline first. This is often left for the very end in my Silo Season 3 reviews, because at this point, I’ve felt the arc pointless.

This is supposed to give us some answers about the creation of the silos and what this Algorithm running the show is.

However, right now, it’s just plodded along, taking attention away from the main storyline. It’s been a thread just dragging on the ground.

Silo Season 3 Episode 7 finally added a little bit of substance.

First, Charlotte has some of her memories back. There’s not a lot, but it’s something, and that gives us a look at how the memory drugs have adapted over the centuries.

The biggest part of the plot is Daniel and Helen flying over where the silos will end up.

There’s a huge drill, creating one of the silos, and it’s clear there is room for many more.

We know that there were 50 silos out there at one point, and the first one is in the middle of them all.

Not all of them still have people in them, but many are still following the exact same rules that Camille and Bernard have had to follow in Silo 18.

We also got our first look at Colin Hanks’ character, Pierre Stenson, who is cold, calculating, and obnoxious. At least, that’s the first impression that I get.

He comes across as the Algorithm, and this has finally led me to wonder where Silo is going with this past-set storyline.

Will we get to see the face behind the Algorithm, and has Pierre somehow found the secret to immortality?

Okay, that seems a little crazy, but maybe his consciousness is in the computer?

Yes, I know the book’s storyline, but Silo Season 3 has gone so far off the page that I’m not even sure everything will end up being set up the same way!

I do think a lot of this should have been revealed a lot sooner, though. The past storyline has dragged for no reason at this point.

Bernard Has an Idea to Help the Silo

In the present day, Silo Season 3 Episode 7 takes us through the wringer emotionally.

Just as we see Lucas and Kennedy get outside earlier than initially planned, everything is thrown for a loop.

I do want to note the writing for the two of them as they stepped outside. 

As Kennedy took in the mass of bodies, Lucas took in all the stars, and it connects back to why and how Lucas and Juliette started talking in the first place. Of course, the stars would get his attention over the bodies.

However, the Algorithm was ready, drones moved in, and gunshots were heard. There was no mistaking that sound.

And for the rest of the hour, we were left wondering if either of them survived.

It meant Juliette, Walker, and others had to pivot, and we got one of the best emotional developments for Juliette throughout the entire series. And she has been through a lot!

There’s a plan to block the deal with the pipe used for the safeguard. The problem is that it could cost 1000 lives.

Juliette isn’t willing to make that call. She cannot put the lives of 1000 people on the line for something that may not work.

But they are all running out of time. Having Camille already put the Vitamin D+ in the water was a smart move by the Algorithm, and it puts the pressure on everyone else.

It’s only a matter of time before they have to use the water in some sort of way. All it takes is one of them forgetting that the water isn’t safe.

Just look at how Carla almost drank the water!

Someone is going to mess up, and that will lead to more deaths.

I’m surprised that this hasn’t been brought up before.

Juliette knows what it’s like to lose memories; to hold onto something and have flashes of the past without truly understanding.

What would that do to a silo full of people? We’ve seen how Camille and Robert are scared of forgetting their son — and of him forgetting them — but what about the thousands of other people in Silo 18?

Nobody has brought that up until Silo Season 3 Episode 7.

Once again, it’s Bernard. He’s the one who has thought ahead, and he proves that he’s never really been the villain of the story once more.

Yes, he did bad things under the Algorithm’s orders, but his focus was on protecting thousands of people.

He proves that by bringing back Gloria Hildebrandt, the one person who fully understands everything Juliette felt when she lost her memories.

Silo 18 has been through memory loss before, and between Gloria and Bernard, they’re able to explain that it led to around 2000 deaths.

That’s double what the plan Knox and others have come up with.

The loss of a few is a worthy sacrifice to save the many. It’s a rule so many have had to follow, and now Juliette needs to accept that.

But seeing her mentally debate it all is human and grounding. It adds a layer to these conversations that so many other dystopian shows tend to overlook.

While she goes through with it, she doesn’t really want to. In the end, she doesn’t need to.

A sudden reveal that Kennedy has survived and is in Silo 17 changes it all.

Is Lucas still alive? That’s up for debate, but at least Kennedy survived.

Silo Season 3 continues to pull at the heartstrings with the mixture of feelings the characters have. 

Even Camille is finally breaking, realizing that she needs to tell Robert more than she should.

It’s only a matter of time before either the safeguard is released or these small groups of people finally start working together to take down the Algorithm. Can they do either before everyone starts forgetting, though?
