Ever since the first promotional details for Big Brother Season 28 dropped, fans have been wondering whether any returning players would be part of the cast.
The “Time Trip” theme certainly seemed to set the stage for a walk down memory lane with some of the franchise’s most iconic houseguests.
However, the long-running reality series unveiled its first batch of players on Tuesday during a bizarre livestream dubbed the “Broveal.”
I’m not sure who came up with that name, but… it definitely wasn’t their best idea. Thankfully, the cast reveal itself is far more interesting than its name.
There had been plenty of speculation that Big Brother Season 28 would borrow from The Traitors Season 1 by mixing returning reality TV personalities with brand-new players.
Instead, there appears to be a glaring lack of Big Brother alumni. If we’re taking host Julie Chen Moonves at her word, there are no returning players.
That’s a surprising decision for a season built around revisiting the past while celebrating the show’s 1,000th episode.
Of course, Rachel Reilly’s return last season gave the series a noticeable boost and only fueled speculation that production would bring back more familiar faces.
That’s why another detail from Tuesday’s reveal stood out. CBS announced only 14 houseguests, compared to the 17 who entered the game last season.
It certainly feels like the network is keeping a couple of names under wraps until premiere night. I’m not mad about the mystery, but it does make you wonder why you’d hold a cast reveal before revealing the entire cast.

It’s definitely good to have a cast mostly made up of newbies, but I can’t help but feel a little annoyed by how CBS marketed it.
Everything indicated that franchise alums would be the backbone of Big Brother Season 28.
It seems like those names are still to come, but given the hype the network created, it all feels a bit off.
