Color me surprised.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage almost always includes Mandy’s more feminist outlook clashing with everybody, especially Audrey.
Yet on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17, Mandy was the one willing to accept the ban on women being full members of the country club, while Audrey stewed about it.

Audrey’s Anger Was More Surprising Than Mandy’s Acquiescence
Although in most cases Mandy refuses to accept being treated as less than because of her gender, she’s also more pragmatic than she seems — at times she bends her value system to support Georgie or to gain something for herself or her family.
Audrey is more rigid but also seems more conservative, including holding traditional beliefs about gender roles, so her fury at being excluded on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17 was surprising.
However, her explosion about it when she was alone with Jim suggested, once again, that there is more to Audrey than meets the eye.
I love that Audrey is more complicated than it seems.

She’s not just the antagonist who often stands in the way of Georgie and Mandy’s relationship — she’s also the strong woman who puts up with a lot for the sake of her marriage, despite her strong opinions, and the mother who sees her children more clearly than anyone else.
Given that she was the expert on golf, her anger at being excluded from the club makes sense.
Georgie wouldn’t have even had the golf skills to play with clients at the club if it weren’t for her, yet he was offered full membership and Audrey was told to have her husband fill out the paperwork.
Even comedies have more substance than it seems (sometimes).

That had to rankle, especially on top of all the years of choosing her battles to keep her marriage intact while secretly being the one who managed both her husband and the kids.
No wonder she tends to be controlling with Mandy — it’s the only place she can put that energy, and on top of that, she has always had reasons to doubt whether Georgie is the best choice for her daughter.

Audrey Was Right To Call Her Daughter a Hypocrite, But Mandy Couldn’t Hear It
Mandy was, after all, the same person who turned the town’s world upside down by daring to suggest that God could be a woman, and standing up for herself as a woman had gotten Mandy in trouble plenty of times before.
Still, Mandy wasn’t the only hypocrite. Audrey didn’t stand up for her daughter during the controversy over Mandy’s on-air comment; she told her that she shouldn’t have angered everyone like that.
It’s a shame that Mandy couldn’t think more deeply about that on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17 until her new boss demanded a more controversial, feminist-oriented think piece.
Better late than never, though, and I loved that new boss. I hope we get more of her in the coming weeks.

As expected, Mandy’s decision to challenge the country club rule created a conflict between her and Georgie, although it wasn’t a major part of the episode.
Georgie objected to her blowing up his plan to meet with clients at the club, but it didn’t become a full-blown fight, though I expect resentment to rear its head at some point during some other conflict.
The tag at the end of the episode was one of the funniest, though, with Georgie watching Mandy take a stand of “no membership, no sex” and wondering whatever happened to just reporting the weather.
How surprised were you that Mandy accepted being only an auxiliary member of the club?

I hate to break it to him, but that idea died a long time ago, although I wondered the same thing when Mandy reported on the state fair in the first place.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17 Had Plenty of Funny Moments

This episode had a more substantial theme than some others, which I appreciated — I didn’t like the earlier episodes in the season that seemed more slapstick than realistic.
However, the great thing about Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17 is that it didn’t sacrifice comedy to tell its story.
Jim’s almost-tantrum, then his annoyance that no one asked him why he was mad, and Audrey’s decision to take Jim to dinner, then her annoyance that she was the one who would be paying, were highlights for me.
I also enjoyed the random conversation between Jim and Connor about wrestling vs. football, although my usual complaint that I prefer Connor to have more to do than deliver throwaway lines still stands.
Nothing was so hilarious that I doubled over laughing or found it too hard to stop, but there were plenty of solid jokes on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 17.
