Be Your Own Pet Announce Tour and First Album Since 2008, Share New Video: Watch

“Worship the Whip” opens Mommy, the band’s first full-length since Get Awkward

Following their reunion last year, Be Your Own Pet have announced their first new album since 2008. It’s called Mommy and it’s out August 25 via Third Man. In addition to the previously shared single “Hand Grenade,” the album has “Worship the Whip,” which arrives with a Jordan William–directed video. Watch it below. Scroll down for the group’s upcoming tour dates.

In the album’s announcement, Jemina Pearl called the album “a reclamation” of herself. She also said this is the first time she brought full song ideas into the band’s writing process instead of fitting lyrics of her own in here and there. “‘Worship the Whip’ is about the right-wing authoritarian personality,” explained Pearl. “Aggressive and domineering to people who don’t think like them, while at heart being a submissive to the authority figures who use and abuse them.”
