On tonight’s episode of The Masked Singer, Jester was eliminated following a performance of “Man of Constant Sorrow.” Was it Alice Cooper, the Who’s Roger Daltrey, Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider, or Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott as the judges each guessed? Nope—it was John Lydon of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. Watch the unmasking and a previous episode’s performance of “School’s Out” below.

In an interview with Billboard, Lydon said he decided to do it for his wife. “Someone contacted my manager and we discussed it and I thought it would be really good because it meant my lovely wife, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, might get a great sense of fun out of it if she managed to guess who it was,” he said. “We’ve lived together for 47 years, Nora and I, so she must have some clues as to who I am and what I can get up to.”

“We’ve only got one life, and you must explore all the possibilities and be limited by no one for no reason,” he said on the show, when asked why he decided to participate. There is one possibility in this life that Lydon doesn’t want to explore—Danny Boyle’s upcoming Sex Pistols FX series.
