New Date For Michelle Williams, Daisy Edgar-Jones Movie

Film News

EXCLUSIVE: Neon is moving the Chloe Domont-directed adult thriller A Place in Hell from a Christmas Day release to April 23, 2027.

We’re hearing that this office-knives drama about a successful cutthroat criminal defense attorney (played by five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams) who has her ambitions upended by a younger lawyer (Daisy Edgar-Jones) brought in to replace her has serious commercial potential after encouraging test screenings. There’s been a great response to Jones’ and Williams’ fierce turns. Andrew Scott also stars.

The new date also allows for a coordinated global launch between Neon and Paramount, the latter of which is handling international distribution.

Neon co-financed A Place in Hell with MRC and Republic Pictures, with T-Street producing.

Spring has been great for sophisticated, female-driven fare including 2024’s Challengers ($15M U.S. opening) and this year’s The Drama ($14.3M opening) and Reminders of Him ($17.9M debut).

The April 23 date is also a hot pre-summer launchpad; it’s where Michael also blasted off. Already on the weekend’s 2027 release-date calendar is Amazon MGM Studios’ Spaceballs: The New One (to which A Place in Hell will serve as counterprogramming), as well as Warner Bros’ untitled F.A.S.T. movie. Neon already had the weekend on hold for an untitled release.

Domont’s feature directorial debut Fair Play sold to Netflix out of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival for an outsized $20 million.
