Hopefully, everyone will forgive me for being so late to the game, but I am finally joining the Fire Country bandwagon, and it is amazing. The series may be in the middle of its third season, but I am playing catch-up.
After only five episodes, it’s very clear why this show is such a hit with fans. The staple of a good series is that it pulls you in right away, and I barely needed five minutes before I was hooked.
The first thing that has to be said is that Fire Country is a many-layered show that explores almost every avenue a procedural can go down.
It also doesn’t hurt that there are some ridiculously handsome men in this series.
I’m pretty sure having at least one hot guy on a show about firemen is mandatory, but I’ll double-check to make sure.
The Drama On Fire Country Burns Almost As Fast And Hot As The Flames They Fight
First off, I’ll try not to be too biased because I have been an admirer of Max Theriot going all the way back to The Pacifier with Vin Diesel and Britney Snow.
So, imagine my surprise when Bode opened his mouth, and his voice was noticeably deeper than Theriot’s had previously been.
I’m not knocking it either because it definitely fits the character. If anything, it was a smart choice on the actor’s part. Speaking of his character, Bode has certainly dove headfirst into the fire, and I’m not talking about his day job.
There’s family drama, and then there is this chaotic mess of a situation. They say time heals all wounds, but sometimes a cut can get infected if not treated. Just ask Freddy in Fire Country Season 1 Episode 5.
While it seems like Vince and Bode are headed for a reconciliation, the tension between the father and son is palpable. It feels like something drastic will eventually happen that brings the two back together.
All I know is that it better not be the mom getting sicker. Sharon is a whole vibe.
Five Episodes In And Fire Country Seems To Already Be Setting Up The “Big Bad Villain”
I don’t know about you guys, but if you’re anything like this TV Fanatic, you love a strong female character who knows her stuff, takes grief from no one, and still has a big heart at the end of the day.
Sharon, like so many characters in the CBS series, embodies so many traits that can be found in just about every mother. The relatability of the show’s characters is one of Fire Country’s greatest strengths.
It goes without saying, but the central theme of the show, despite a heavy focus on fire, is all about fanning the flames that make a family burn bright.
Although, the Leone family seems to burn out more than it shines.
Now, I am only five episodes in, and I can already tell that this Uncle Luke character is going to be a headache. In truth, my opinion mostly stems from the actor playing him.
I’m talking of none other than Michael Trucco. The man is a phenomenal actor, but I have only ever seen him playing a villain, going back to him as an evil warlock on Charmed in 1999.
So, you see why as soon as the character showed their face, I immediately went, “Oh, he’s a bad guy for sure.”
Again, I’m only five episodes in, so I could be eating my own words by the end of Fire Country Season 1.
But probably not, because one of Trucco’s latest roles was as the sleazy Rufus Griswold on The Fall of The House of Usher. Like Michael Emerson, the man knows his talents are suited for villainy.
Max Theriot Has One Hot Show On His Hands In More Ways Than One
Still, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of everything going on. The show isn’t even trying to be subtle about Gabs and Bode eventually developing feelings for each other.
Also, how long will this mess between Jake and Bode go on?
I’m actually asking because in the real world, when friendships like theirs break, it’s almost impossible to reconcile without someone swallowing their pride.
I doubt whatever is going on with Gabs and Bode will help the situation, either.
Speaking of the newest Cal Fire recruit, I love the struggle she has trying to make Manny see her as her own woman. It perfectly mirrors Bode’s journey with Vince.
I may be late to the party, but I am enjoying the festivities nonetheless because Fire Country is the kind of show where you’re itching to know what happens next.
That said, I didn’t appreciate that it took five episodes to get a shirtless Bode. This is a show about firemen, right? In all seriousness, Max Theriot is doing an amazing job not only acting in but also producing Fire Country.
Suffice it to say, I am hooked and can’t wait to finish up the first season as well as Fire Country Season 2 in anticipation of the return of Season 3.
Without giving anything away, what can you hint at of what’s to come?
Which characters should I be keeping an eye on?
