EXCLUSIVE: Abramorama and Zeitgeist Media are unspooling David Smick’s documentary America’s Burning with a set of special screenings at Regal Cinemas on Monday, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.

This comes following a special return engagement at the Angelika Film Center in NY, and ahead of the documentary’s debut on AppleTV, Amazon and Google Play on Oct. 22.

The Michael Douglas narrated docu is a deconstruction of how the American Dream has waned for many due to a compromised economic system which is increasingly controlled by a corporate elite. At the same time, the docu celebrates America’s history of social and economic resilience. America’s Burning features interviews with James Baker, Derek Black, Ian Bremmer, Arthur Brooks, James Carville, Amy Chua, Stan Druckenmiller, Katherine Gehl, Hawk Newsome, Leon Panetta, and Larry Summers.

Says the pic’s EP Barry Levinson “Our nation is experiencing historic challenges. It is more important than ever to ask ourselves the difficult questions about our economy; about who it is working for, and who it is not. At festivals, public and private screenings this summer: the film inspired these types of conversations, and we encourage others now to join in.”

An awards campaign is being mounted in time for the election. Ian Michaels produces.

Smick is the Chairman and CEO of JSI, Inc., a global macroeconomic strategy firm based in Washington, D.C. Launched in 1986, the firm’s first client was George Soros. Other clients have included JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and many other of the world’s leading financial institutions. In 1987, Mr. Smick founded The International Economy magazine. In 2008, Smick wrote the bestseller, The World Is Curved, which predicted the coming financial crisis. In 2020, with the help of Levinson as EP, Smick wrote and directed the full-length documentary film Stars and Strife, distributed by Starz.
