Sony has titled the Tommy Wirkola thriller starring Phoebe Dynevor, Beneath the Storm.

The shark thriller will hit theaters next summer on Aug. 1. Also on this release date are the wide entries, The Bad Guys 2 from Universal and DreamWorks Animation and an untitled Warner Bros event feature.

Wirkola also wrote the movie which stars Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou.

Producers are Oscar winner Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

Dynevor broke out in Netflix’s Bridgerton series as Daphne Bridgerton. The 2023 posh erotic thriller Fair Play, in which she starred opposite Alden Ehrenreich, propelled her star further with a BAFTA nomination for her work. The movie was scooped up by Netflix out of Sundance 2023. She’s starring in two more thrillers: spy pic Inheritance from filmmaker Neil Burger and Anniversary, which also stars Diane Lane, Zoey Deutch and more.

Wirkola directed such cult genre titles as Violent Night and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Sony has a late summer hit in the $25M Wayfarer Studios co-production, It Ends With Us, based on the Colleen Hoover bestseller, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni; directed by the latter. The movie rallied romance dramas back at the box office with an amazing $50M opening.
