Dwayne Johnson & Chris Evans’ ‘Red One’ From Seven Bucks & Amazon MGM To Jingle In Theaters Next Year

Film News, News

EXCLUSIVE: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.

Similar to other committed Amazon MGM theatrical titles of late, i.e. Air and Saltburn, Red One will have a theatrical window before streaming on its ultimate home, which is Prime Video.

By releasing Red One theatrically on November 15, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to take advantage of the traditionally lucrative holiday corridor before Thanksgiving. Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I hear that the movie has tested twice and scores were through the roof.

The four-quadrant Red One was based on an original story by Seven Bucks President of Production, Hiram Garcia.

Johnson described Red One in an Instagram post: “Our movie is a big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas. Think JUMANJI meets MIRACLE ON 34TH ST meets HOBBS & SHAW with a dash of HARRY POTTER and sprinkled on top with my all-time favorite Christmas movie, ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE…”

Red One is directed by Johnson’s Jumanji collaborator, Jake Kasdan, from a script penned by Fast & Furious and Hobbs & Shaw scribe Chris Morgan. The pic stars Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel.

Red One is produced by Seven Bucks Productions’ Hiram Garcia, Johnson, and Dany Garcia, Chris Morgan Productions’ Chris Morgan, and The Detective Agency’s Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. EPs are Barry Waldman and Chris Morgan Productions’ Ainsley Davis, with John Wildermuth and The Detective Agency’s Sky Salem Robinson co-producing.

Warner Bros. Pictures is handling international as part of its distribution deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon MGM’s streak this year at the box office includes Creed III, the highest grossing movie in the Rocky franchise at $275.2M WW, the 2x Golden Globe nominated arthouse hit Saltburn ($10.5M; hits Prime Video on Dec. 22), Ben Affleck’s Air ($90M WW), and Cord Jefferson’s 2x Golden Globe nominated and TIFF winner American Fiction which is expanding through the holidays.
