Cinemark Offering Private “Swiftie Parties” For Eras Tour Concert Film

Breaking News, Film News

Cinemark, the nation’s third largest theater chain, is letting fans reserve auditoriums for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film, out this fall.

“We are excited to offer fans the ultimate Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film VIP experience in their own private Cinemark auditorium,” said the chain’s chief marketing and content officer Wanda Gierhart Fearing, noting the “sensational” ticket sales for the film opening Oct. 13.

These promise to be a supercharged version of the private watch parties theaters have been offering for years, and which became a staple during Covid.

The AMC-distributed film, unveiled August 31, clocked in more than $37M from the three big theater circuits — AMC, Regal and Cinemark — in its first 24 hours of presales, Deadline reported. Current opening weekend projections of $70+ million blow away all previous concerts films, and plenty of others.

It also has an interim agreement, SAG-AFTRA’s National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland revealed recently. Swift will be on a tour break when the movie opens. Titles have been falling away due to the Hollywood strikes so the Eras news was particularly welcome to exhibitors. Others films have shifting their release dates to move out of Swift’s way.

Swift’s Eras tour has smashed records and she’s been dominating the U.S. music charts. She recently became the first female artist to hit 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

AMC is handling the distribution of The Eras Tour via Variance Films booking. The film is directed by Sam Wrench.

Cinemark owns the Century, Tinseltown and Rave circuits, operates 514 theaters in the U.S. and South and Central America with 5,812 screens.
