Adele is one step closer to completing an EGOT. Her CBS concert special Adele: One Night Only was a big winner at night one of the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys, taking home five awards. The show won Emmys for Variety Special (pre-recorded), Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special, Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, and Technical Direction, Camerawork, and Video Control for a Special.
The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent also won big, taking home three awards, including Variety Special (live), Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special. The wins leave Eminem—who has multiple Grammys and an Oscar—a Tony Award away from completing an EGOT.
Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls also took home two awards last night. The Amazon Prime Video reality series won trophies for Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program (Nneka Onuorah) and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality Or Competition Program.
The Creative Arts Emmys, split into two ceremonies this year, will air in a condensed, two-hour recap on September 10 on FXX. Saturday (September 3) night’s event focused on unscripted programs (reality TV and documentaries), variety shows, specials, and animation.
The Beatles: Get Back tied Adele with five Emmy wins overall.
