Ian Worang, who co-founded and played guitar in the Toronto post-punk band Uncut, has died, Exclaim! reports. Sam Goldberg, Jr.—Worang’s former Uncut bandmate—confirmed the news to Pitchfork through a representative for Arts & Crafts Productions. A cause of death was not provided. Ian Worang was 47 years old.

Ian Worang co-founded Uncut with Jake Fairley back in 2001. After releasing a 12″ together, Fairley left to pursue a different career and Worang chose to turn Uncut into a full band, adding guitarists Chris McCann and Sam Goldberg, drummer Jon Drew, and bassist Derek Tokar to the lineup. Uncut released their first two albums, their 2004 debut Those Who Were Hung Hang Here and the 2006 follow-up Modern Currencies, through Paper Bag Records. In 2013, the band released a third full-length titled Infinite Repeats.

In addition to Uncut, Worang played bass in other Toronto indie rock bands such as the Two Koreas and the Diableros. He also was a member of Canadian new wave band Bishop Morocco where he contributed guitar on Old Boys, their six-track EP released by Arts & Crafts in 2012.

Various figures from the Canadian scene have paid tribute to Worang online, including label Outside Music, author Naben Ruthnum, and band Aim Low.
