LCD Soundsystem Announce Holiday Special Where Eric Wareheim Plays James Murphy: Watch the Trailer
LCD Soundsystem have announced The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special, which airs on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel and Prime Video starting December 22 at 9 p.m. Eastern. The special opens with All My Friends, a 1990s-style sitcom starring comedians and actors as members of the band. Eric Wareheim directed the special and stars in the role of James Murphy. He’s joined by Macaulay Culkin, Aparna Nancherla, Jon Daly, Christine Ko, a puppet, and others. Watch the trailer below.
After the sitcom opens the special, the actual band will perform a career-spanning set that includes the inaugural live performance of the 2015 comeback holiday single “Christmas Will Break Your Heart.”
“I’ve already conquered film, James has conquered music, but we have yet to conquer the sitcom—the HIGHEST form of art,” Wareheim said in a statement. “We’ve been working on this project for 15 years, and for this show we’re unveiling a uniquely emotional perspective of the sitcom universe for the holidays—provided by one of the greatest bands of all time and my dear friends, LCD Soundsystem. I can’t believe Amazon Music is letting us do this.”
“I am similarly stunned that someone let us do this,” Murphy added. “At least we finally get to use our Korey puppet.”
The special airs one day after LCD Soundsystem conclude their Brooklyn residency. Murphy and Wareheim previously starred together in Rick Alverson’s 2012 film The Comedy.
