Animal Collective have shared a new single from their upcoming album Time Skiffs. It’s called “Walker” and it comes with a music video directed by Avey Tare and his sister Abby Portner. In the clip, all four band members are dressed in cloaks and can be seen performing the track atop a collage background while people in colorful bodysuits crawl around them. Check it out below.
In an interview with Zane Lowe, Panda Bear said “Walker” is a tribute to the late Scott Walker, who died around the time he began writing the song. “Scott’s music has meant a lot to me and he’ll always be a big inspiration,“ said Panda Bear. ”But there’s also a kind of exhaustion and resignation to the singer of ‘Walker’ that belies a darker layer.”
Time Skiffs is due out February 4 via Domino. “Walker” is the second track Animal Collective have shared from it, following “Prester John.” Next year, the band will hit the road for a spring tour in support of the album.
