Julz Sale, the lead singer and guitarist of Leeds post-punk act Delta 5, has died. Her one-time label confirmed the news on Wednesday (September 22).

Sale co-founded Delta 5 in the late 1970s with Bethan Peters and Ros Allen. Forming in the same scene as the Mekons and Gang of Four, the group stood out for their double bass approach and woman-led lineup, with Alan Riggs and Kelvin Knight later joining the group.

Though the Delta 5 only released one full-length album—1981’s See the Whirl—they released several other singles, which Kill Rock Stars collected in the 2006 set Singles & Sessions: 1979-1981. The group dissolved shortly after See the Whirl’s release. “Mind Your Own Business,” released in 1979, remained one of the band’s best known songs over later decades, appearing in TV series and an Apple ad about iPhone security that aired in 2021.
