Showtime has revealed the first trailer for The L Word: Generation Q, its revival of the groundbreaking cable television series that ran from 2004-09.
In it, Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) returns with a new mission to become Los Angeles’ next mayor, declaring in a campaign speech, “Los Angeles has been very good to me, and I believe it’s my turn to give back to the city that I love so much.”

Of course, her political ambition is just a piece of the action ahead. This teaser also hints at some steamy scenes from its new cast of characters, as well as some high drama involving returning favorites. In particular, it looks like Bette and Shane McCutcheon (Kate Moennig) will share at least one tender moment after admitted how much they missed each other.
The preview also contains a fun wink to fans of The L Word who’ve been anticipating this revival since it first got into motion in 2017, as Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey) tells her TV studio audience, “That hiatus felt really long. It felt like a decade, right?” We see what she did there.
The L Word: Generation Q premieres Sunday, Dec. 8 at 10/9c on Showtime.
